This rural community near Tauranga is located in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island. Volunteers redeveloped Te Puna Quarry into a park.

Te Puna is home to three maraes belonging to the Ngāti Ranginui hapū of Pirirākau:

- Paparoa Marae and Werahiko meeting house

- Poutūterangi Marae and Takurua meeting house, and

- Tutereinga Marae and meeting house

Rotorua, Matamata (Hobbiton) and Whakatane are all within an hours drive, and Te Puna is very handy to Mt Maunganui and Tauranga's CBD.

Be sure to visit Minden Lookout, which will provide a panorama of nearly the entire Bay of Plenty on clear days. Some days are so clear that you may be able to spot Whaakari steaming away in the distance!
