Havelock North is Hawkes Bay's boutique village in the heart of wine country. Surrounded by numerous orchards and vineyards, its industry is based around its fruit and wine production. The town offers superb shops selling knitwear from Italy to knick-knacks from India, and it goes without saying that the diverse range of wineries, cafes and restaurants are of the highest standards and source their produce locally.

Must-do's include local wineries, climbing Te Mata Peak with its amazing commanding views of the ocean and mountains, and cycling along the many hidden and secluded tracks. Amble down the walkway by the café called Coffee at Crosses on Napier Road and enjoy a walk along the river and help yourself to an abundance of fresh figs on the trees during the season.
