Balclutha, aptly meaning 'big river town', is home to New Zealand's second-largest river, the Clutha River. The river is an integral part of the town's history, as it encouraged farmers to the area and brought fame but mainly fortune with the discovery of gold.

Nestled under the picturesque blue mountains, there are many outdoor activities to enjoy. From Golfing, swimming, and hikes, you can take your pick on the weekends on how to best enjoy your free time. 

Arching over the Clutha river is the Balclutha road bridge. To enjoy below is salmon and brown trout fishing year-round. Locals and visitors afar enjoy waterskiing and powerboating.
