Turangi is also affectionately known as the Rangi, the town of all seasons, and the Trout fishing capital of the world!

This town is visited by thousands of visitors each year and is a popular destination for trout fishing, hunting, rafting, kayaking, hiking and has plenty of activities on offer all year round.

Turangi is the gateway to an adventure playground. A short 30 minute drive takes you to the Whakapapa ski field nestled among the famous Tongariro national park. Surrounded by majestic mountains, Mount Ruapehu, Mount Tongariro, Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Pihanga. One of the world's greatest hikes, the Tongariro crossing, is visited by thousands of people from around the world each year. The Tokaanu hotpools is situated only 5 minutes out of Turangi and is the perfect place to soak in the natural healing waters after a full day of skiing. Numerous hiking tracks surround Turangi such as Lake Rotopounamu, the Tongariro river trail and the red hut river trail with spectacular views all round. Turangi offers a variety of established restaurants, Lakeland house which sits on the southern shores of Lake Taupo is popular for both locals and visitors. 

The Turangi tavern offers great weekend entertainment and a relaxing atmosphere complimented by a superb restaurant.

With a population of around 4500, and deeply rich in history and culture, Turangi is home to the people of Ngati Tuwharetoa. It's the perfect place to raise children, especially if you love the outdoors. Why would you want to travel the world when really you have everything right in your own backyard! New Zealand sporting stars are born and raised in Turangi, and it’s the tight knit community that really makes this town a special place.
