One of the world's greatest hikes, the Tongariro crossing, is visited by thousands of people from around the world each year. The Tokaanu hotpools is situated only 5 minutes out of Turangi and is the perfect place to soak in the natural healing waters after a full day of skiing. Numerous hiking tracks surround Turangi such as Lake Rotopounamu, the Tongariro river trail and the red hut river trail with spectacular views all round. Turangi offers a variety of established restaurants, Lakeland house which sits on the southern shores of Lake Taupo is popular for both locals and visitors.

With a population of around 4500, and deeply rich in history and culture, Turangi is home to the people of Ngati Tuwharetoa.
