Proud to be in
Hokitika

Welcome to

Hokitika, the jewel of the West Coast, is home to everything you could ever want! Hoki is small enough to know your neighbours but big enough to have a vibrant and bustling community. With Westland Milk Products, Silver Fern Farms, and supporting independent businesses, there are plenty of employment opportunities.

Explore our unique and wild, untamed wilderness! A fantastic place to raise a family, the town boasts great outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, gold mining, treetop walks, views of Mount Cook and Tasman and short drives to beautiful fresh lakes. The Hokitika River frames the town to the south and the surrounding hills and mountains to the east, as well as the Tasman Sea to the West. Hokitika is only a half hour's flight from Christchurch with twice-daily flights from Hokitika Airport.

Sandwiched between the ocean, rivers and in the shadow of the Southern Alps, Hokitika is rich in greenstone and friendly people who live life to the fullest. A traditional source of pounamu (greenstone), Hokitika is home to the Arahura River, where locals have sourced greenstone to create jewellery and sculptures throughout history.

The Hokitika Gorge provides breathtaking scenery in all seasons. Locals get to enjoy views of mountains, beaches, rivers and glaciers year-round. The Hokitika Wildfoods Festival is the local end-of-summer tradition and iconic amongst locals and visitors alike.
