Welcome to

Dannevirke - (AKA Dannevegas, Vegas)

Steeped in Scandinavian heritage, Dannevirke was established after 21 Danish and Norwegian families arrived in 1872, settling in the district and calling it home. We are proud to call Dannervirke home too.

Smack bang in the middle - a short drive over the hill will land you in Palmerston North, and a short drive in the other direction will take you to the sunny Hawke's Bay, and then, to the east, is the beach complete with great fishing and diving – what more could you ask for?

The wilderness is never too far away, with the Ruahine Forest Park right on Dannevirke's doorstep. With an estimated 5,700 people, it's a great place to raise your family, either in town or in the many available rural areas. Tranquil and relaxing, this beautiful township is surrounded by sheep and beef and dairy farms.

Its Danish history is celebrated with a Viking theme throughout the town - the children's playground is even a large Viking ship! Agriculture is the driving force of Dannevirke, with land providing income for the town with a long history of dairy, beef and sheep farming. Dannevirke is a great lifestyle choice and an equally great place to raise a family. People who own lifestyle properties on the outskirts of Dannevirke enjoy the quiet life in the country when they come home from work.
