Proud to be in
Te Kuiti

Welcome to

Te Kūiti is the sheep shearing capital of the world...yes, it's a lofty claim for this small town, but as you spend some time there, you'll realise just how true it is! Te Kūiti is also home to the champion sheerer, Sir David Fagan, among many others! A huge statue of a shearer (apparently based on another local shearing legend Godfrey Bowen) greets you as you enter this beautiful town and bears testament to the significance of its proud shearing history.

Also home of world-famous all black rugby legend, the late Sir Colin Meads, they have his statue proudly standing in the main street to commemorate the great man.

Te Kūiti is the business hub of the King Country with a full range of trading banks, sale yards, freezing works sawmills and a public hospital.

This classic provincial kiwi town is where you'll still find people stopping to greet each other in the main street.
