About Greytown

Greytown is a popular weekend and holiday destination but for those in the know, it is a fantastic boutique village that provides even more amazing lifestyle opportunities.

Rediscovered and revived in the late 1990s, Greytown’s Victorian main street now houses chic cafés, boutiques, galleries and antique shops. On the outskirts of town, there’s Papawai, an important Marae and site of the first Maori parliament.  Local cultural groups include Workingmen's club, Film society, Greytown Little Theater, regular yoga and pilates classes, Plunket rooms, children's playgroup, Music and Movement, Sports Clubs and more.

Greytown also has the only secondary school in the South Wairarapa. Kuranui College, ("Big School of Learning" in Maori). The College was established in 1960. It has claimed to be the biggest Bus School in the country, as most of its students travelled by School Bus to get there. It has recently completed a $1 million auditorium which is used by the college and the Greytown public.
