Proud to be in
Featherston

Welcome to

Featherston is the gateway to the Wairarapa, a welcoming sight as you sweep off the Remutaka Hill, which is a close commute to our capital Wellington.

If you are a cycling, railway, book, or military enthusiast, you'll want to visit Featherston for sure! This historic Wairarapa town has unique museums and great access to the regions cycle trails. Featherston is known as a "Booktown", which is a small rural town or village close to major cities, in which secondhand bookshops are concentrated. Their residents set up events around books - selling them, writing, reading, illustrating, printing, making, and publishing them, and there are many Booktowns worldwide, but Featherston is the only Booktown in New Zealand.

Featherston is near the shores of Lake Wairarapa and the gateway to the wild stretch of cliffs, rocks and water that is Palliser Bay. It's one of the region's highlights with a historic lighthouse, native fur seals and the Putangirua Pinnacles, which provided an eerie backdrop in Sir Peter Jackson's "The Return of the King" movie.

Featherston is the perfect town for those who work centrally yet wish to live in a more rural setting.
