What our agents say
Hear from Property Brokers salespeople who have built successful careers with our support, and learn why they chose Property Brokers over other agencies.
"I joined Property Brokers in 2020 as a branch administrator. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed my role, it wasn't long before I became envious of the sales agents buzzing around the office, putting deals together and having the flexibility to work their own hours and grow their business. I wanted to be a part of the team's successful journey and create a path for myself and my family. Working for Property Brokers, you are not just another number. They are genuinely interested in you as a person and want to provide support and assistance to help grow your business. I quickly learned this wasn't your everyday Real Estate agency; this was a family business that lived and breathed the values of its True Team promise and one I wanted to become entrenched with for a successful future!"
- Rebecca Noble
"I got into real estate because the mahi you put into your business, you get in return. Why did I choose Property Brokers? I was introduced to Property Brokers as a first home buyer and then as a vendor. Through this experience, not only did I learn how their team worked together to get me a great result, but my agent acted with absolute passion in what she was doing. The agent that helped me through both processes, even though we are in different regions, is now my mentor. Real estate is a full-circle industry, you can call a colleague anywhere in the country, and they will help you at the drop of a hat. In this industry and in this current market, you want to work with the best. That's why I chose Property Brokers."
- Charlie Goodyear
Real estate is for people of all backgrounds
Our people come from a variety of backgrounds. Some have degrees, some don't. Some are 25, some are 65. We've got phlebotomists, baristas, and prima ballerinas (we have yet to get a prima ballerina, though!). Still, the one common trait we can find in our people is an above-average desire to succeed. An ambition to be better than average, make a better income, provide a better service, and have a better quality of life that drives them to be part of one of the most exciting and dynamic organisations in NZ.

Answering your questions about real estate careers
Considering a career in real estate in New Zealand? Whether you're wondering how much real estate agents can earn, how commission works, what qualifications you need or how to choose the right real estate company to work for, it pays to understand what you're getting into.
Here are answers to some of the most common questions people ask when considering becoming a real estate salesperson in New Zealand.
What is the highest paying real estate career?
There isn't one type of real estate career that's guaranteed to pay the most. Residential, lifestyle, rural and commercial real estate can all offer strong earning potential, but what you earn will depend on the market you work in, the value and volume of transactions you complete, your experience and, importantly, your ability to build relationships and generate new business.
Unlike many careers with a fixed salary band, real estate sales can provide the opportunity to build your income as you build your business. That means motivated salespeople who consistently generate listings, connect buyers and sellers and deliver great results have the potential to create a highly rewarding career.
The best real estate career for you isn't necessarily the one with the highest potential commission. Consider where your experience, interests and connections could give you an advantage. Someone with strong connections to farming and agribusiness, for example, may be naturally suited to rural real estate, while someone with a business or investment background may find commercial property a great fit.
How does commission work in real estate?
When a property is successfully sold through a real estate agency, the seller generally pays the agency an agreed commission. How salespeople are remunerated from that commission depends on the agency and the salesperson's individual agreement.
At Property Brokers, collaboration is built into our model. Through our True Team Promise, our commission is split 60% to the listing salesperson and 40% to the selling salesperson. This helps encourage our salespeople to introduce their buyers to properties listed by other members of the Property Brokers team rather than focusing solely on their own listings.
For someone building a real estate career, that's important. Your opportunities aren't limited to the properties you personally bring to market. Building a strong network of buyers and matching them with properties across the wider Property Brokers team can also contribute to your success.
How much can you earn as a real estate agent in New Zealand?
There's no single answer to how much a real estate salesperson can earn in New Zealand. Earnings can vary considerably depending on experience, location, market conditions, property values, sales volume and the remuneration structure you have with your agency.
Your earning potential can also be influenced by factors you have greater control over, including how consistently you prospect for new business, the strength of your personal brand, the relationships and referral network you build, the number of properties you list and sell and your ability to turn opportunities into results.
That's part of the attraction of a career in real estate. Rather than following a traditional salary progression, you have the opportunity to build a business and grow your earning potential alongside it.
It's also worth remembering that building a successful real estate career takes time. Establishing your reputation, database and pipeline doesn't happen overnight, so when comparing real estate agencies, consider the training, systems, brand, market presence and support you'll have behind you as you get established.
Do I need real estate experience to join Property Brokers?
No. You don't need previous real estate experience to start exploring a career with Property Brokers.
People come into real estate from a huge variety of careers and backgrounds. Skills such as communication, relationship building, negotiation, organisation, resilience and local knowledge can all transfer particularly well into real estate.
What matters is having the right attitude, motivation and willingness to learn. Property Brokers can help people who are new to the industry gain the qualifications and knowledge needed to become a licensed real estate salesperson and provide practical support as they begin building their career.
Before you can carry out real estate agency work, however, you'll need to meet New Zealand's licensing requirements. The Real Estate Authority's qualification requirements explain the approved qualifications required to apply for a salesperson's licence, including the New Zealand Certificate in Real Estate (Salesperson) (Level 4).
How do I choose the best real estate agency to work for?
The best real estate agency to work for isn't simply the one offering the most attractive commission structure. You're effectively choosing the platform from which you'll build your business, so look closely at what sits behind the salesperson.
Consider the agency's local market presence, brand reputation, training and professional development, leadership, technology, marketing support, administrative and compliance support and, importantly, its culture.
You should also ask how the agency's salespeople work together. Are listings and buyers actively shared? Will experienced people help you while you're learning? What happens after you've completed your licence? And does the company have the resources to help you continue developing once you're established?
At Property Brokers, you'll join a nationwide team of more than 900 people across 85+ locations, backed by a family-owned New Zealand business with 40 years of experience. Our True Team approach encourages salespeople to work together and share opportunities, while our training, technology, marketing, systems and support are designed to help our people build successful long-term careers.
What support does Property Brokers provide new real estate salespeople?
Getting your real estate licence is only the beginning. Building a successful career means learning how to prospect, grow your database, conduct appraisals, generate listings, market property, build your personal brand and develop trusted relationships within your community.
That's why the support you receive in your first months and years in real estate matters.
Property Brokers provides training and development, experienced local leadership, marketing support, technology, systems and access to a large collaborative team. Our training team provides practical coaching and development designed to help people build real-world skills alongside their industry knowledge.
There are also specific supervision requirements for real estate salespeople in New Zealand. All salespeople must be properly supervised by a licensed agent or branch manager, and salespeople with less than six months' real estate agency work experience cannot prepare sale and purchase agreements or provide advice about the legal rights and obligations associated with those agreements.
New salespeople can still undertake a wide range of activities during those first six months, including prospecting, obtaining listings, marketing, appraisals, conducting open homes, following up buyers and building their database under appropriate supervision.
So while you're building your own business, you're not building it alone. At Property Brokers, you'll have experienced people, training, systems and a nationwide team behind you as you develop the skills, relationships and confidence to grow your career.
