Setting the tone for a stronger, smarter property management future

Nearly five years ago, a simple question from two industry leaders changed the course of property management in New Zealand.

When David Faulkner, General Manager of Property Management at Property Brokers, and Harrison Vaughan, Director of Tommy’s Property Management, sat down for a conversation in Wellington, they asked what many had long felt - why didn’t property managers have their own stage?

At the time, sales conferences dominated the real estate calendar, yet the property management side of the profession - the people navigating compliance, legislation, and tenant relationships - had no dedicated platform to learn, be recognised, and celebrate their contribution to the industry.

That moment of frustration sparked what would become The Property Management Conference (The PMC) - an event created by the industry, for the industry.

The inaugural conference proved that property managers were hungry for their own voice. Delegates described the first PMC as “a forum that finally felt like it was built for them.”

“The property management profession needed its own platform,” says Faulkner. “From day one, our mission has been to create a space where property managers can learn, connect, and feel proud of their profession. The energy that fills the room each year is proof of how powerful that purpose is.”

Now in its fourth year, The PMC has evolved into an institution - a place where ideas, innovation, and industry leadership converge. What began as two people’s shared passion has grown into a national movement, driven by collaboration and a belief that progress comes from within the profession itself.

Held in Auckland, The PMC 2025 welcomed nearly 400 delegates, sponsors, and exhibitors over two days.

This year’s programme was the most ambitious yet, bringing together leading economists, proptech innovators, and frontline property managers from across New Zealand and Australia.

Sessions explored the intersection of AI, data-driven decision making, sustainability, and leadership, offering insights that will help shape the next era of property management.

Faulkner adds, “When you do what you love, it doesn’t stop with your own business. Passion pushes you to think bigger, to collaborate, and to lift the entire profession. The PMC was born from that mindset - it’s about building something that benefits everyone.”

Alongside two days of industry insights, The PMC’s signature Awards Night - this year, themed Wonderland” - once again became a highlight, celebrating those who exemplify excellence, innovation, and care in the property management field.

“It’s about shining a light on the people who make this industry stronger,” says Faulkner. “Every year, I’m blown away by the calibre of professionals who show up ready to share, learn, and celebrate each other.”

The Property Management Conference continues to expand its reach and influence. Organisers have confirmed that The PMC will return in 2026, promising even broader international participation and a strengthened focus on innovation and leadership development.

At Property Brokers, there’s immense pride in seeing one of their own lead a movement that uplifts the entire profession. It’s a powerful example of how following your passion can inspire change far beyond your own organisation.

“The PMC is a reminder that when you care deeply about what you do, you don’t just build a better business - you build a better industry,” says Faulkner.
