For more than thirty years, Palmerston North and its surrounding region have been shaped by the generosity, leadership and vision of Property Brokers’ Tim Mordaunt and Paul Roache. Their service reaches far beyond real estate - it reflects a lifelong belief in giving back to the communities that shaped them.
On the 24th of November 2025, Tim and Paul were formally recognised with a Civic Honour Award, the highest recognition for voluntary service in Palmerston North. Presented by Mayor Grant Smith at the Regent Theatre, the awards celebrate individuals who give their time, energy and personal commitment to strengthening community life.
Since the awards began in 1988, just 169 people have received this honour. Tim and Paul now join that group, acknowledged for their decades of service across sport, arts, youth development, education, health and community wellbeing.
Tim delivered several memorable reflections during the ceremony, including the philosophy that has guided Property Brokers since 1986, saying, “Over the years, what you learn is the more you give, the more you get. We’re proud to be a company of givers.”
He spoke about showing up - not only as business leaders, but as members of the community, “If you’ve got a Christmas parade, you walk in the Christmas parade. If you’ve got Relay for Life, you walk around Relay for Life. You be part of the community, and you give to it.”
Paul’s speech echoed that same spirit of service, emphasising humility and the privilege of giving back, saying, “It’s really humbling to receive this. You never do this work expecting recognition - you simply show up for your community. So to be acknowledged in this way means a great deal.”
He reflected on what makes Palmerston North special: “We live in the best city in the country, and we live in one of the best communities.”
Paul highlighted the region’s artistic and sporting talent - and how proud the company is to stand behind young achievers, “Through our scholarship programme, we know we’re supporting amazing talent on the national and international stage. It’s a real honour, and we feel it’s our privilege, really.”
Paul also paid tribute to the wider team at Property Brokers, “I don’t feel like I’m receiving this tonight just for me - it’s really our team. Everyone buys into our philosophy; they live the values on their business card every day.”
Tim echoed this sentiment, acknowledging Paul and Guy for continuing the legacy of giving after his retirement.
Both founders expressed enormous pride in Palmerston North - a community that first drew them in and never let them go.
“This is a fantastic town - everybody has a beer together. It’s an amazing community, and I’ve been very, very lucky to live here,” said Tim.
With the Civic Honour Award, Tim and Paul’s long-standing commitment, generosity and leadership have been recognised at the highest community level.
Their legacy - of service, of giving back, of showing up - continues to shape the city they love, and remains deeply woven into the culture of Property Brokers.
