At Property Brokers, we believe that trust should be backed by training. Our property managers are well trained and kept up to date, so they can protect landlords' investments and look after tenants' homes in a fair, lawful way.
The rules keep changing
Residential tenancy law in New Zealand has changed more in the last two years than in most of the decade before. Each change affects forms, notices, timeframes and the advice we give. One missed detail, such as a notice period counted wrongly, or a bond lodged the old way, can lead to delays, costs or a Tenancy Tribunal claim. That's why we treat training as an ongoing part of the job, not a one-off.
Training that's local, not just head office
Property Brokers has a dedicated training team. It includes regional trainers who work alongside our team leaders in the offices you deal with. This means training isn't a one-size-fits-all video from a distance. Our regional trainers know the local market and the people on the ground.
Team leaders can call on them for practical, hands-on support when they need it most: bringing a new property manager up to speed, or helping the whole team adjust to a law change.
A strong start for new and experienced property managers
The first few months in a property management role set the habits that last. That's why every new property manager at Property Brokers has a regional trainer supporting them from day one. Working alongside the team leader, the trainer guides each new starter through a structured onboarding programme, ensuring consistent training no matter which office they join. With a dedicated trainer leading the learning, team leaders can stay focused on their other tasks. For you, it means your new property manager is confident and capable sooner.
Training doesn't end after onboarding. Our regional trainers continue to support team leaders with ongoing education so that experienced property managers stay sharp too. When the law changes, our team is briefed before the change takes effect. We update processes, templates, and advice, and property managers practice applying the new rules. We also learn from real Tenancy Tribunal decisions, which show how the law is applied in practice and help us avoid common mistakes.
Property Brokers has also committed to all our property managers completing the New Zealand Certificate in Residential Property Management (Level 4). This NZQA-recognised qualification builds on their training and will deepen their property management knowledge.
Recognised by the industry
Our investment in training is paying off. Property Brokers property managers have been finalists and winners at The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) Awards for Excellence. Most notably, our team has won the Residential Property Manager Rising Star award for the last two years in a row, and this year two of the three finalists were from Property Brokers.
This industry award recognises property managers early in their careers. Winning it for two years running is a strong sign that our onboarding and ongoing training are hitting the mark, and that our newer property managers are delivering a high standard of service from the start.
What this means for you
Whatever changes come next, our team will be ready. If you have questions about any recent law changes, please get in touch with your property manager.
