The crucial role of foreign investment in driving economic growth

Monday, 8 May 2023

Property Brokers Commercial is proud to be a member of the Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, a global network of 550 leading independently owned real estate companies across 70 countries cooperating to interconnect the most qualified local and regional real estate firms and link vendors and purchasers from all parts of the globe.

With its origin dating back to 1963, LeadingRE has grown to be the only global network fully engaged in all of the real estate sectors. Being an invitation-only business-to-business network, Property Brokers has access to some of the world's largest and most respected agencies, who have high net worth clients looking for a safe and friendly place to invest their funds.

Recently, Guy Mordaunt, Managing Director of Property Brokers, was invited to participate on a 4-member discussion panel at the LeadingRE Conference in Las Vegas, sharing industry intelligence and knowledge while highlighting the benefits of investing in a "business-friendly" environment that is Aotearoa New Zealand. The attendees at this conference benefitted from the networking opportunity, with cross-market referrals and business opportunities being high on the participants' agenda.

It was evident from conference participants' feedback that while much of the world is bracing for a financial reset, New Zealand and the APAC region are seen as bucking the trend and may be the exception to the rule.

Adam Woodward, Head of Office Capital Markets, agrees: "We expect the APAC region to outperform all other markets in 2023. There are significant headwinds in Europe and the US with real risks of a recession. As a result, we think APAC will be a haven for property investments. As the debt markets stabilise and volatility fades, we also expect private equity to ramp up M&A activities through 2023."

Foreign investment plays a vital role in the New Zealand economy, with over $481 billion of foreign investment being pumped into the New Zealand economy in 2021. 57.4% of this was from Australia, UK and the USA, with 52.6% being portfolio investments.

Regarding the LeadingRE conference, reconnecting with our existing global Commercial partners and meeting new ones was a conference highlight. We look forward to presenting our clients' properties to our international colleagues and their clients and continuing to broker foreign investment in New Zealand.
