Rangatira Tavern - For sale by tender
Originally established in 1914 by Mr D. J. Barry, the Rangatira Hotel quickly became a focal point for the local community. The original two-storey building featured 33 guest bedrooms on the first floor, along with accommodation for the manager and staff. Lighting at the time was provided by an acetylene gas generator - a mark of modern innovation for its era. Tragically, the hotel was later destroyed by fire but was completely rebuilt in 2000 as the Rangatira Tavern. Since its reconstruction, the tavern has remained an important hub within the Te Karaka district, successfully operating under a Class One restaurant licence. After many years of ownership, the current owners are now offering the property for sale by tender. The sale includes the land and buildings only, as all chattels are owned by the tenants. The existing lease has now expired. While the business itself is not included in the sale, the current tenants have expressed interest in negotiating a new lease with the incoming owner.
