- The competition is open to current Property Brokers tenants only.
The pet entered must: - Be authorized and approved by the landlord in writing, as required under Sections 42C–42E of the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 (as amended).
- Comply with any reasonable conditions set by the landlord.
- Be kept in accordance with all relevant laws (e.g., Dog Control Act, local council registration).
Tenants may enter one pet per tenancy. Entries must include:
- A photo of the pet.
- Pet’s name and brief description. Entries must be submitted via the official Property Brokers entry form during the campaign period: 1 December – 12 December 2025.
First prize is a $250 Animates gift card. Second Prize is a $150 Animates gift card, and third prize is a $50 Animates gift card.
Prizes are sponsored by Animates NZ Holdings Ltd and are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
All entries must comply with Sections 42C–42E of the Residential Tenancies Act, which govern:
- Section 42C: Tenants may keep a pet only if the tenancy agreement allows it or the landlord gives written consent. Tenants must comply with any reasonable conditions attached to that consent.
- Section 42D: Tenancy agreements cannot include blanket bans on pets or impose unreasonable conditions. Any such clauses are invalid.
- Section 42E: Landlords must respond to a tenant’s written request for pet consent within 21 days. Property Brokers reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet these requirements.
- Any persons photographed with pets must have given consent to be photographed, and the appropriate written consent documentation completed in full and provided to Property Brokers on request.
- Any persons photographed who are under the age of 18 must have the appropriate written consent documentation completed in full by their parent/guardian and provided to Property Brokers on request.
- Failure to provide documentation of consent for photographed persons (with a pet) will deem the photo ineligible for submission to Property Brokers for use, including as an entrant into the Property Brokers Pawsome Pet Competition.
- All photos may be used by Property Brokers in other promotional material. The photographer gives their expressed permission for all photos to be used now or in the future by Property Brokers.
- By entering, participants consent to Property Brokers using submitted images and pet details for promotional purposes.
- Property Brokers reserves the right to amend or cancel the competition at any time.
- The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Disclaimer: The new Residential Tenancies Act provisions relating to pets (Sections 42C–42E) come into effect on 1 December 2025. Tenants and landlords should ensure compliance with these legal requirements.
