Rangatira Tavern
Originally established in 1914 by Mr D. J. Barry, the Rangatira Hotel quickly became a focal point for the local community. The original two-storey building featured 33 guest bedrooms on the first floor, along with accommodation for the manager and staff. Lighting at the time was provided by an acetylene gas generator - a mark of modern innovation for its era. Tragically, the hotel was later destroyed by fire but was completely rebuilt in 2000 as the Rangatira Tavern.
