Proud to be in

Wairoa

Welcome to

Wairoa - (aka Why'Roa)

Wairoa is the most northern district in Hawkes Bay. Translating to "Long Water", the township is nestled alongside the Wairoa River.

Motorhome friendly, Wairoa is a great place to stop awhile. Take some time out to enjoy our sidewalk eateries, do a spot of shopping, admire artwork created by local artists or learn about Wairoa's history from our museum.

Walk (or cycle) the scenic riverside walkway which takes you to the river mouth and Whakamahia Beach, where you can search for driftwood or pumice, or perhaps a spot of surfcasting is your preference. A short drive inland takes you to Morere Hot Springs or Lake Waikaremoana (native forest so vast, it is the largest native forest in the North Island) or head instead along the coast to a popular holiday and surfing spot, Mahia. The Wairoa coastline is also home to Rocket Lab Launch Complex - the world's first and only private orbital launch site.

With friendly people and plenty to do and see. Why Wairoa? Why not!
