About Shane
Shane grew up on a sheep and beef farm in the rural community of Ikawai, south of Waimate and has spent most of his life living in South Canterbury. In a changing farming landscape, Shane became interested in the neighbouring farm conversions to Dairy, This was the start of 20 years in the Dairy Industry. Starting off as a relief milker on weekends, Shane worked hard progressing up to sharemilking and farm ownership. Shane was involved in three Dairy conversions, one in Albury and two in Pleasant Point, sharing his expertise to ensure farm layout and shed positioning was set up correctly and setting up management practices to help optimize farm productivity. Over this time Shane was fortunate enough to work for and with exceptional people who have all played a part in where he is today.
Shane currently lives in Pleasant Point with his wife Claire who teaches at Craighead Diocesan and their three children Eva, Mac and Jordie, who attend Pleasant Point Primary and Pre-School. While it is a very busy household, they enjoy getting out on their bikes, to the beach or to the lake with friends as often as they can.
Sport has always been a big part of Shane’s life; he has played a number of rugby games for Waimate Senior, Pleasant Point Senior and South Canterbury Heartland Rugby teams. Shane is currently on the committee for the Pleasant Point Rugby Club, coaching the Pleasant Point Seniors and the South Canterbury Development Rugby team. Shane enjoys the social side of rugby, being able to engage in conversation with a range of people from throughout South Canterbury.
